Spyder Club Bike Review: the Moto Guzzi Griso SE

April 16th, 2013

It’s a bike not many members wanted to try and one I thought I regretted buying immediately, what a mistake! Having ridden the 1200 cc’d, 8 valve engine Griso for 40 minutes I’d made my mind up, not good, however as the 45th minute approach it was as if the whole bike changed. Suddenly there was a new element to this beautiful Italian motorcycle. With its matt green paintwork, brown seat and spoked black wheels it made me feel like Steve McQueen in the Great Escape!

Once run in, the engine continued to entertain. The surge of power over 5,000 rpm made for hilarious riding and the 230 kgs fell away as soon as you engaged the clutch in first gear. A bike of that weight shouldn’t handle that well! Whilst in Spain in 2010, myself and a member on a Street Triple R enjoyed one of the hidden gems of Andalucia, a 2nd, 3rd gear road of 50 kms and the Griso performed just as well as the light weight Triumph.

On the same trip another member lost sleep over the fact he was riding the Guzzi the following morning, only to wax lyrical within 25 miles of the villa.

A truly unique motorcycle that many Spyder Club members and trip guests thoroughly enjoyed! It’s a bike that’ll return to Spyder Club one day and one on my own wish list!!
