It was an eventful weekend at the World Superbike round in Assen with rain, sun and wind all contributing to make riding conditions and tyre choice very tricky. Race one was red-flagged after rain caused a group of riders to crash and the re-started nine lap race was eventually won by Sylvain Guintoli on his Effenbert Liberty Ducati 1098R after leader Leon Haslam crashed with a 3 second advantage. It was a much deserved win for Guintoli and his first on the Ducati.
The Brits had more to celebrate in race two which was eventually won by Jonathan Rea who was riding with an injured hand after crashing earlier in the day. Sylvain Guintoli improved his day even more by managing second place and Eugene Laverty eventually triumphed in an extremely close fought battle with Marco Melandri and Leon Haslam.
